games with multiple endings

Games with more than one ending offer the best value for your money, because you get to play them over and over again.

Some of those games actually require you to play more than once for the story to make sense. Some gamers hate that, but as a frugal gamer, I love when I can play a game a few times so that I get more gameplay out of it.

In this list, you’ll find some of the best games with multiple endings that allow you to experience multiple story endings. The list is ranked according to my personal preference, not according to the number of endings you get out of each game.

Many of these games will require hundreds of hours to finish, so if you want to chase a particular ending, be sure to follow a guide.

And don’t worry, I won’t go into too much detail and spoil the endings for you.

1. Cyberpunk 2077

cyberpunk 2077 optimized

Cyberpunk 2077 is one of the best games ever made, and for RPG and FPS fans, it delivers a truly one-of-a-kind and highly immersive experience.

In Cyberpunk 2077, you get 6 different endings. Five of the main endings are included in the base game, and then you get another ending from the Phantom Liberty DLC.

The choices you make throughout the game heavily influence the endings of the game, especially how you choose and interact with your companions will affect the endings you get.

There’s also a secret ending you get when you strengthen your bond with Johnny Silverhand.

2. The Witcher 3

The Witcher 3 is another game that you need to play before you die. Not just because it has an incredible story campaign, but also because it has the most engaging action combat systems in any game made so far.

In The Witcher 3, you get three main endings that are focused on Ciri. And of course, the DLCs have other endings as well.

In addition to all the main endings, the game also features other smaller endings to side-quests, missions, and the overall story. Like how your choice of a romantic partner can affect interactions with specific characters. Those smaller endings were my favorite part of the game.

3. Baldur’s Gate 3

Baldur’s Gate 3

Baldur’s Gate 3 is one of the few games with a ridiculous number of endings in any game ever made. According to the developer, this game has 17,000 endings!

That sounds like an exaggeration, but the devs were actually talking about the smaller endings and variations you can get from different NPC interactions, romance options, and side quest dialog variations. The truth is, the 17k endings is an unrealistic amount.

The main story of Baldur’s Gate 3 has 4 core endings and about a dozen ending variations based on good vs bad playthroughs.

To sum up, Baldur’s Gate 3 is a game with a ton of different endings and you can definitely play it a dozen or so times from start to finish and get about 1,000 hours worth of gameplay value.

4. Dishonored

dishonored 2

Dishonored is still my favorite stealth game of all time. It blends special abilities with stealth mechanics to give you a unique way to tackle each mission in many different ways.

Even though the original Dishonored game is quite short, the missions give you several ways to complete them in various styles. And the main story also offers three different endings, based on your play style and your kill count.

Dishonored 2 is another great title that has four different endings. The Death of the Outsider also includes two endings. You can grab all these games super cheap from a sale, and they still hold up visually and in gameplay.

5. Fallout 3 & 4

fallout 3 after mods

The Fallout series, especially from Fallout 3, 4, and New Vegas, are well-known for their storylines with multiple endings. In Fallout 3, you can actually get about 200 different variations of endings. But that number is a bit exaggerated, similarly to Baldur’s Gate 3.

Fallout 4, however, only has four main endings based on the faction that you side with. And similar to other games, you will get to experience different variations and other smaller endings depending on the side quests and missions you complete.

That’s not including all the different DLC-sized mods, like Fallout London, you can install to play other storylines with multiple endings.

6. Starfield

starfield bounty hunting

Starfield is not the most amazing RPG or the Skyrim sequel that everyone expected. But it comes with a decent story and interesting gameplay mechanics.

One aspect that separates Starfield from other games is its unique ending system that allows you to start new playthroughs, over and over again, with some changes to the storyline, characters, and the universe.

For example, after going through the ending in one playthrough, I ended up in a world where some of the main characters have different roles. And in another one, the main characters were children.

This unique system allows you to go for many different endings and play dozens of new game+ style playthroughs.

7. Disco Elysium

Disco Elysium

Disco Elysium won several awards for its unique storytelling and gameplay combination. While it’s not a game made for everyone, it’s still one of the best CRPGs you can play today.

In Disco Elysium, you can get three main story endings. However, there are about a dozen different game ending screens you can get based on the decisions you make. For example, I got an ending right after starting a playthrough for choosing a specific dialog option.

Disco Elysium is truly a unique game that needs patience and careful thinking.

8. Mass Effect Trilogy

mass effect trilogy

The Mass Effect Trilogy is hailed as one of the all-time greatest RPGs ever made. The space opera story of the games, blended with action combat and the incredible voice acting, offers something truly memorable.

In Mass Effect 1 and 2, you will get two different endings for each game. But with Mass Effect 3, you can experience four core endings that will completely change how the story concludes.

All three games combined, you can probably get several hundred hours worth of gameplay value from the trilogy.

9. Detroit: Become Human

detroit become human

Detroit: Become Human has an amazing story campaign that will keep you at the end of your seat until the very end. One thing that makes this game so amazing, aside from the interactive menu screen, is its story endings.

Detroit: Become Human features 85 different endings that are split across its three main protagonists. The choices and decisions you make for each character will determine what their endings will be like.

So, technically, you can get hundreds of different variations of endings in Detroit: Become Human.

10. Red Dead Redemption 2

red dead redemption 2- strangers

Another iconic RPG that delivers a one-of-a-kind gameplay experience through engaging storytelling and character development. RDR2 needs no introduction, and it’s a must-play for all fans of wild west and open world games.

Red Dead Redemption 2 has two different endings that you get to choose in the final mission. It’s just one major decision you have to make. However, depending on your honor level (good vs bad), you will get two different variations of each ending. So in total, it’ll be four endings.

Red Dead Redemption 2 is one of the few games that will break you emotionally at the end, and it’s something you must experience yourself. So try to avoid watching videos and go play the game.

11. Dying Light 2

dying light 2 gameplay

Dying Light 2 is one of the best zombie apocalypse games done in first-person view. The zombie dismemberment system alone makes this game worth playing.

The decisions you make in Dying Light 2 can have a direct impact on its main story. The game has two main endings, which also affect the fate of one important character.

Additionally, there are about a dozen different endings and mission variations you can get in the game, all based on your choices.

12. STALKER

Stalker shadow of chernobyl

The original STALKER series comes with one of the best storylines in post-apocalyptic games.

In STALKER Shadow of Chernobyl, you can get up to 7 endings, including five bad and 2 good endings. In Clear Sky, you get two endings. In STALKER 2, you can get up to four different endings.

I highly recommend checking out STALKER GAMMA after completing the original games.
