One of the biggest complains gamers make when playing free to play games is saying the microtransactions are too expensive.
Well, how else do you expect the game developers to make money when they give away the game for free.
When it comes to Path of Exile, this statement is especially true. Path of Exile is actually one of the best free to play games out there that could easily be sold as a $60 premium game.
It packs so much value and content to keep you playing for hundreds of hours. What makes it even more special is that you can play the game completely without buying any microtransactions.
But, I also know that urge you get whenever you’re playing a co-op game to show off. To buy a cool-looking armor to show off to other players and adding cool effects to your weapons. I get that urge too.
However, I’m someone who’s very careful about spending money on virtual stuff like cosmetics in video games. I only spend money if I’m certain I can get my money’s worth from the game. And I believe spending a few bucks on a game like Path of Exile is totally worth it, especially since I get so much free content to play with for a long time.
Having said that, I did extra research and took extra precaution when buying Points and other in-game content. If you’re thinking about buying some stuff in Path of Exile, here are a few tips to help you get started without wasting money.
Step 1: Grab A Supporter Pack
Path of Exile uses a currency called Points for buying microtransactions. For $5 you get 50 points, which is not even enough to buy a stash tab. So whatever you do, don’t buy Points packs.
Instead, buy a supporter pack.
There are several different supporter packs available in Path of Exile shop starting from $30 and going all the way up to $480.
In my opinion, the $60 supporter pack offers the best value in terms of the best bang for the buck.
For example, the Pitfighter supporter pack is one of my favorites. It gives you a complete armor set, weapon effect, back attachment, portrait frame and much more. More importantly, it gets you 550 Points to spend on other microtransactions as well.
Step 2: Wait For A Sale
Next, you need to be patient and wait. Wait for a sale.
Path of Exile runs sales on microtransactions all the time. Especially on weekends, it hosts special sales with discounts on valuable items like stash tabs.
So hold your horses and wait until there’s a sale to spend the Points you got from your supporter pack.
Step 3: Get Stash & Currency Tabs First
As soon as you see a sale on currency tabs and stash tabs. Go grab them!
Currency tab is one of the most useful items in Path of Exile. This item allows you to easily manage all the loot you gather in a neatly organized tab to help you easily find items whenever you need it.
If there’s only one item you can buy, get the Currency tab.
Next, you need to invest in Premium Stash Tabs. Stash tabs give you extra space to store items. And it’s a must-have for trading items with other players.
If you have extra points or see a good sale on Map Stash Tabs, get one of those too. It will come in handy when you reach endgame content.
Step 4: Save Your Points
I’m not a big fan of spending Points on other cosmetics, pets, effects, and other useless stuff. So it’s up to you to spend the rest of your Points however you prefer.
But, if I were you, I’d save my Points for the future. Path of Exile is a constantly evolving game and new content and items get added to the game all the time.
Save up on those Points to spend when there’s something really worth buying.
