By This year’s Gamescom was a mid-level experience. It wasn’t bad but not great either.
To give you an idea of how the event really was, the best announcement from the event was a remaster of a 10-year-old game. It was the only announcement where the crowd screamed the loudest.
Don’t get me wrong, there were some great game reveals and announcements at the event. It’s just that they were not that amazing or mind-blowing.
If you’ve missed Gamescom 2026, don’t worry, you didn’t miss out on much.
There were only five great game announcements during the Opening Night Live, at least according to my taste. And here they are.
1. The Witcher 3 Remastered & DLC
The biggest reveal during the Gamescom 2026 Opening Night Live was saved for last. And the crowd went wild for this one.
The Witcher 3 is getting a remaster, and it’s coming out in just a few days on September 26, 2026.
The best part is it’s going to be a free upgrade for all the existing owners of the game. And the even better part is that if you only own the base game, you are getting the DLCs for free.
This Remaster features massive visual enhancements as well as gameplay and animation improvements, including for combat and a new skill tree system as well. It makes the game look brand new.
The developers also announced a brand new DLC expansion for The Witcher 3, coming in 2027, called Songs of the Past. This DLC will act as a tie-in for the upcoming Witcher 4 to bid farewell to Geralt as the main protagonist.
2. WARLOCK
Of all the new game announcements, this was my favorite.
WARLOCK: Dungeons & Dragons showed some very innovative gameplay footage with a cool magic system and unique mechanics. The visuals, aesthetics, and the overall vibe of the game looked incredible.
Anything in the Dungeons & Dragons universe is going to be great but the fact that you get to work with dark magic in this game is going to make it even better.
The main character of the game is being voiced by Maggie Robertson, the tall lady from Resident Evil Village, and Tricia Helfer, from Battlestar Galactica. You know it’s going to be good!
3. METRO 2039
It’s been a while since METRO 2039 was first announced. But at Gamescom 2026, the developers finally revealed the release date for the game.
METRO 2039 is coming out on 4th February 2026. And you can also get a much closer look at the game with its latest gameplay trailer.
METRO 2039 is one of my most anticipated games for 2027 and it’s starting to look better and better.
4. NO LAW
NO LAW is another game I’ve been keeping a close eye on and it was great seeing a gameplay reveal at Gamescom.
NO LAW takes heavy inspiration from Cyberpunk 2077, and that’s a good thing. It also seems to feature more brutal FPS combat with a grittier story.
NO LAW is slated for 2027 release, but I think it’ll need more time than that to make it happen. I just hope the game can live up to these gameplay previews.
5. SPINE
SPINE is game that kind of went under the radar. This game did not have a spot in the Opening Night Live. It was showcased later during the Future Games Show at Gamescom. But I think it deserves much better recognition.
SPINE is a gun-fu game that features awesome movement-based gun fights. This is a genre that I love and something I haven’t seen in a while from a video game. So I’m very excited to see how this game turns out.
SPINE has a release window in 2027.

Of course, there were many other games revealed during the ONL event. You can watch the entire live stream to check them out.
While these games looked great, I always remind myself not to get too excited. These gameplay reveals usually never represent the actual game.
Having said that, I am super excited for the Witcher 3 Remaster. That one was not on my Bingo card this year.
