Deep Rock Galactic

Deep Rock Galactic is one of those games that refuses to die.

It’s been more than 8 years since its release on Steam and it’s still going strong with more than 12k active players daily logging into the game.

There’s a reason why Deep Rock Galactic has held its ground for so long. It’s because of the loyal community.

Ghost Ship Games, the developer of Deep Rock Galactic, kept its initial promise and delivered nothing but quality content throughout all these years.

The game has no predatory monetization, pay-to-win stuff, or even paid expansions. All content drops and expansions are free. Even the seasonal battle pass is free for all users.

This is why Deep Rock Galactic is popular among all kinds of players. And that includes my family and me as well.

If you’re looking for a fun and engaging game to play with your friends, family, or even solo, Deep Rock Galactic is definitely worth buying. Here’s why.

What Is Deep Rock Galactic?

deep rock galactic gameplay

Deep Rock Galactic is a fun and unique survival game where you play as a Dwarf who’s working for a mining company. Your job is jump into a mining rig and dive into a planet full of minerals to mine valuable resources.

These procedurally generated underground mines are full of weird creatures, so it’s not an easy job to gather all the resources while defending yourself. Plus, you also have to navigate your way around the mines in the dark.

Once you complete the mission, you have to call your mining rig to head back up, and you need to run for it before the time runs out.

Rock And Stone!

I’ve been playing Deep Rock Galactic since its early access days in 2018-2019. Playing today, the game feels just as (or even more) fun as it ever was.

Everything from the character customization to gunplay, the mining mechanics, loot mechanics, and the overall flow of the gameplay feels just as smooth as it ever before.

One thing that’s worth noting is the enemy variety. With the new seasons content (more on that later), I’ve been seeing more and more new types of creatures and enemies on the maps. This adds an exciting challenge to each mission.

During the early days, we didn’t have much to do except for mine for resources and upgrade our gear and character. But now, there’s so much to do. You can progress in the battle pass, unlock cool cosmetics, new gear, and more.

Co-Op Is Still Super Fun

Whether I dive into the mines alone or co-op with a team of random people, each mission feels exciting and fun.

When I team up with random players, I don’t talk at all. And neither do the other players. But we use emotes and common gestures to successfully complete the missions each time without any trouble.

I do enjoy playing the game solo, but admittedly, I have the most fun when playing with friends.

I’ve been playing Deep Rock Galactic for many years with my sister and my wife. This is actually the only game I could find that was enjoyable for all three of us.

Each mission is full of chaos, dying, and occasionally succeeding in the missions. But the experience is fun every time.

Above all, the game has given us a way to stay connected even from afar. And I feel like it has brought us three closer together.

Free Seasons Content

One of the coolest new additions in Deep Rock Galactic is the Seasons.

Seasons are like the battle pass systems in live service games. In Deep Rock Galactic, you get access to the Seasons battle pass for free.

It gives you an additional reason to play the game and allows you to unlock cool stuff while doing the missions.

deep rock season 6

Seasons in Deep Rock Galactic are done in themes. For example, Season 6: Relics of Hoxxes comes with a unique zone called Ossuary Depths, which features creepy, desolate mines filled with boneyards.

Seasons also includes Seasonal events, such as raids for you to participate in for bigger and better rewards.

The Game That’s Loved By Everyone

There’s always something fun to do in Deep Rock Galactic.

You can chase after achievements, level your characters, farm materials for better gear, try a harder difficulty, or even team up with random players for more Rock and Stone!

As the developers of Deep Rock Galactic continues to show nothing but love for the players with enless supply of content, players have returned the same level of love and respect for the game with loyalty and support.

If you ask anyone, even on Reddit, for a co-op game recommendation, you will always hear Deep Rock Galactic being recommended multiple times.

That’s because this game is one of a kind, and these days, it’s rare to see a game with this level of quality developer and community support.

Is Deep Rock Galactic Worth It?

Yes, 100% yes! Deep Rock Galactic is totally worth playing right now. And at only $30 (often goes on sale for $10 btw), it’s a steal, especially considering the amount of content and gameplay value you get in return.

You can definitely enjoy the game solo. But it’s more fun with friends. If you don’t have friends, don’t worry, the game has matchmaking so you can always team up with other players.

I honestly don’t have anything negative to say about this game. It’s that good. Back in the early access days, I would’ve complained about lack of endgame activities. But it’s now been fixed with Seasons content and raids.

I’ve been supporting the developer by buying cosmetic DLCs and planning on continuing to do that as long as I play this game.
