By September of 2026 is a great month for games of all genres, as it is packed with amazing games.
There are dozens of amazing triple-A games and indie games releasing this month. And I managed to narrow it down to just five great games.
It was tough, but hey, we don’t have all the time or the money to play all the games.
These are some of the games I’m most excited for this month. A few have already been released, and a few are still a few days away.

1. Onimusha: Way of the Sword
Onimusha: Way of the Sword is the highlight of this month as it received rave reviews from fans and critics.
What makes the game so enjoyable is how it offers a souls-like experience without heavily focusing on rushing boss battles.
This game appeals to both hardcore souls-like fans as well as the casual action RPG fans because it balances all the aspects of both worlds quite beautifully.
The combat, the campaign, and the story work together flawlessly to deliver an unforgettable experience.
2. Control Resonant
Control was one of my favorite games that I still replay from time to time. It was such a mind-bending and unique experience. And I hope the sequel will deliver an experience matching its original title.
From the early looks of the gameplay, I wasn’t very excited about Control Resonant. Mainly because of its ARPG-style gameplay instead of the third-person shooter vibes of the original game.
But I’m ready for something different, and Remedy is often great at delivering surprisingly good experiences. So I’m hopeful for this one.
3. Blackwood
During the day, you are managing a video store; at night, you are John Wick. That’s pretty much the plot of this game, and it looks absolutely fantastic.
I’ve been looking forward to Blackwood for such a long time, and I really hope it holds up to my expectations. Because I’ve been wanting to play a John Wick-style game for a long time.
Blackwood features very stylistic combat with special moves similar to John Wick with cool weapon handling and disarming mechanics.
Blackwood is releasing as episodes; Act 1 is releasing this month, while Acts 2 and 3 are releasing in 2027.
4. The Blood of Dawnwalker
The Blood of Dawnwalker comes from a team of ex-CDProjekt developers who worked on games like The Witcher 3. So you know this is going to be good.
Blood of Dawnwalker is already out and has received great feedback from critics as well as players. This game is not an ordinary RPG; it offers a unique experience.
In Blood of Dawnwalker, you have a limited time window to play the game. This forces you to carefully plan each day so you don’t waste your time. You must choose the side activities and character leveling very carefully.
Despite this time-restricted campaign, Blood of Dawnwalker has a very engaging gameplay system as well as missions that are quite interesting and different.
5. The Witcher 3 Remastered
I’m going to be real with you, this is the only game that I’m actually excited about this month. All the other games are just so I can keep myself busy until this one releases.
Why am I so excited about a 10-year-old game? Because I get to play one of the most iconic games of all time, with better graphics and improvements.
The Witcher 3 remaster is also free for all existing owners of the game. It includes a massive graphics overhaul, bringing the visuals on par with modern games. And features changes to combat and gameplay mechanics.
All with the existing amazingness of the Witcher universe. What more could you ever ask for?
Wrapping Up
I know it’s not easy to pick just a couple of games to buy when you already have a huge backlog.
It’s also difficult not to get swept away by all the hype waves when everyone you know and follow are playing the same games.
A trick I use in those occasions is to install and play games as you buy them. Don’t buy another until you’re finished with the first new game.
Also, if you’re not too interested in a game, just wait for a sale. There are a few big Steam sales heading our way in the coming months. Not to mention, the next month is also packed with a ton of great games.
