There are tons of co-op and multiplayer games out there. But most of those games are full of violence, anxiety, and sometimes even depression.
Sure, you could play Call of Duty or Fortnite with your partner, but one close encounter will have you both yelling at each other. And that’ll be the end of gaming together.
If you’re planning on spending some quality time with your partner, or even introducing them to gaming, you need to find the right game to get them hooked.
In this list, you’ll find some of my favorite games for couples, most of which I’ve played with my wife. Truth be told, she was pretty terrible at FPS shooters, so I had to find games that she would enjoy being good at.
My biggest problem was finding games that we both enjoy. So we went through a whole bunch of games before finding good games to play together.
Now, some of these games have shooting and combat mechanics, but they are not violent or competitive. Check them out below.
1. Stardew Valley

Let’s get the most recommended, highest reviewed, and coziest game out of the way first.
Yes, Stardew Valley is the best game you can play with your wife, husband, boyfriend, girlfriend, or whatever you kids call each other these days.
Stardew has everything. It has farming, cooking, fishing, dungeon crawling, fighting weird slimy creatures, romance, questing, and a whole bunch more. It definitely has a little bit of something for everyone.
Together as a couple, you can work on building a farm, finding resources for the community center, and working as a team to complete quests as well. It’s a great game to just chill, relax, and enjoy time together.
2. Minecraft

Minecraft is another great game for couples. You can explore together, go on dates on cool servers built by other players, and do a whole bunch of cool activities.
The best way to play Minecraft together with your partner is to build something as a team. Plan a cool building, your dream home, or even something out of your favorite fictional world and just build it together, one chunk at a time.
This will not only have you guys working together as a team, but it will also bring you two even closer by improving decision-making and communication skills.
3. Enshrouded

Personally, I got bored with the blocky world of Minecraft and wanted to try something new. That’s when I came across Enshrouded.
Enshrouded is a lot like Minecraft, but with better graphics and lots of other cool gameplay mechanics.
Enshrouded also has base building with a much deeper level of capabilities. It also has RPG elements, which I enjoyed a lot. And a quesline too.
If you guys find Minecraft too shallow or too simple, give Enshrouded a try.
4. Deep Rock Galactic

All you do in this game is dive into weird caves as space dwarves to mine weird stuff and fight off hordes of monsters. It sounds simple, but it’s the most fun I’ve had in a co-op game.
I played Deep Rock Galactic with my wife and my sister. It’s a really fun way to bond and just spend time together. The game has a few different types of missions. You also have gear upgrades and cosmetics to unlock by progressing in the game.
This game uses procedurally generated caves, so each mission feels new no matter how many times you play it.
5. Sea of Thieves

In Sea of Thieves, you and your partner can be sea pirates together and go explore a massive map full of treasure islands.
This game is super fun as it makes you work together to pilot your ship. You and your partner can split responsibilities to manage the ship and go on adventures every day.
You can explore islands, fight bosses, find treasure troves, or even go fight other players in PVP battles.
6. It Takes Two

It Takes Two is one of the most recommended games for couples, mainly because of its story.
In this co-op game, you play as a couple who are on the brink of divorce. Then they get transformed into dolls, and you must work together to get out of this situation.
As you can imagine, it’s the perfect game for a couple to play together. Personally, I prefer games that involve action, so it’s not one of my all-time favorites, but it’s a great game for couples nonetheless.
7. Split Fiction

Split Fiction is another co-op game made by the same folks behind It Takes Two. The story follows two female authors who get trapped in their own fictional worlds.
This game features more action than It Takes Two and has lots of sci-fi elements, since it takes place in a fictional world.
It’s another great platformer for couples or any two people to play together.
8. A Way Out

A Way Out is a fun co-op game you can play with your partner or even your friends, because it involves working together to escape from prison.
This game has some action, but it mostly involves stealth and approaching missions strategically. There are also puzzles and some emotional moments to experience together as well.
You should try this game once you’ve played some games together and built some rapport, in gaming, I mean.
9. Don’t Starve Together

Don’t Starve Together has a very unique art style, so it may not be for everyone.
It’s a survival game that features hand-drawn style graphics. Your goal is to gather resources, craft, and build bases to survive in a strange forest. There are also other survival mechanics, like hunger and sanity, to worry about.
Show some of the gameplay footage to your partner before buying this game.
10. Rust

Rust is another survival game that plays similarly to games like Minecraft. But this game is much more approachable as it features high-quality and realistic graphics.
Rust often gets misunderstood because of its PVP aspect. But you can actually play this game completely PVE without any PVP by choosing a PVE-only server.
This game is great for couples as it allows you to work together to build bases and explore to gather resources, fight zombies, and upgrade.
11. Party Animals

If your partner is a big animal-lover, you won’t have a hard time convincing them to play this game.
This game is a party-style brawling game where you play as cute dogs, cats, and other adorable creatures. But don’t let the cuteness fool you.
In this game, your goal is to survive at all costs. So you will have to fight other animals to survive the arena.
The best part about this game is its physics-based gameplay mechanics. It just makes even the fights look funny.
12. Schedule I

I saved the best for last because this one is a little bit edgy.
Schedule I is a game that involves building a drug-dealing business and an entire town addicted to your product.
The funny graphics and mechanics make the game feel less serious, and it’s mostly about growing weed and delivering stuff to your customers. And it’s fun to play with your partner or friends.
Although the subject matter of the game is controversial so your partner may not approve of it. Make sure to check in with them before buying the game. It’s only available on PC at the moment.
